June 13, 2024 | Update

As Phase I of the project nears its final stages, the following may be expected in the next two weeks:

  • Week of July 17, crews will complete tie-ins to individual properties and small service lines.
  • Crews will continue to replace pavers along the west side of Main Street.
  • Beginning June 17 at 7:00 a.m., paving crews will begin milling the trench areas (where the new water line was installed). Patch paving the impacted areas will follow.
    • There will be no delivery vehicle access to the project area on Monday, June 17. Delivery drivers will be notified.
    • Pedestrians will be asked to stay on the sidewalk due to hot asphalt in the roadway. Crosswalks will be available for pedestrian crossings.
    • Business access will remain in place.
    • Main Street, from Heber Avenue south, will be repaved in its entirety once Phase III of the water line replacement project is complete (expected summer 2026).
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, June 19-20, crews will continue to finalize tie-ins in confined areas. They will repave or replace pavers in these areas immediately after the work is complete.
  • The entire project area will be cleaned up ahead of Savor the Summit on Saturday, June 22!
  • Crews will return the week of June 24 to make any final adjustments within the sidewalks and to clean the site.

June 5, 2024 | Update

The project continues to progress on schedule. Below are a few notes regarding what to expect for the last steps of Phase I:

  • Crews continue to work on individual building tie-ins and small service lines.
  • Crews will continue to replace pavers on the street.
  • Replacing tie-ins requires excavation and disruption of sidewalks, unfortunately. Business access will remain in place.
  • Paving prep along the project area will begin.
  • The goal is the have the paving portion of the project complete by Savor the Summit, June 22.

Project Overview

In order to replace aging infrastructure and assure safe and reliable drinking water delivery to the heart of Park City, a three-phase project will launch April 1, 2024, to replace the water main, fire lines and water services in Main Street. The first system-wide upgrade since 1984, this work is necessary to prevent further pipe breaks and other system failures that are more common in aging infrastructure.

Working with the Historic Park City Alliance (HPCA), the City chose construction timelines that minimize impacts to area businesses and other stakeholders. This project is planned to be completed in the following three shoulder-seasons, which historically reflect the quietest business months on Main Street:

  • April 1-July 1, 2024: Phase I – Heber Avenue to 5th Street
  • April 1-July 1, 2025: Phase II– 5th Street to 3rd Street
  • April 1-July 1, 2026: Phase III – 3rd Street to Swede Alley

Phase I of this project will take place along Main Street from Heber Avenue to 5th Street, time permitting.
