Main Street Area Plan
The Main Street Area Plan (MSAP) project launched May 2024. Concurrent with the General Plan, the City is conducting a focused Historic Main Street and Old Town Small Area Plan to create a vision for the future with a tangible and feasible project list.
Goals and Outcomes
- Preserve the character of Park City’s Historic Main Street
- Develop infrastructure for better access
- Improve resident quality of life
- Stabilize workforce and business success
- Enhance economic vibrancy
Background
Because of its prominence, multiple studies and capital investment plans have focused on Main Street and Historic Park City since at least the 1980s. Since then, considerable investments have helped support and maintain the area’s character, look, feel, and functionality (parks, sidewalks, plazas, parking, transit, special events, and more).
With continued growth along the Wasatch Back, particularly at the edge of City boundaries and the resort bases in Park City, Historic Main Street and Old Town will continue to remain economically vibrant and competitive. Given the current moment and pressures, Park City is presented with an exciting opportunity to consider a comprehensive reinvestment and protection strategy to maintain it iconic and historic core.
Timeline
The project timeline is ambitious, with goals to return to the City Council in the fall with an update, and again by the end of the year with detailed scenarios for consideration. The MSAP process is designed to balance community involvement and professional analysis.
While the expeditious process will result in efficient results, it also limits the ability to have comprehensive community-wide surveys that involve all potential stakeholders. Ongoing updates will be provided through this website and ongoing staff communication reports linked below.
