Trail Etiquette & Culture
Park City's world class trail system relies on its users to be kind and conscientious to ensure that it remains a fun & safe environment for everyone. We promote several etiquette values:
- 10 seconds of kindness - Take the time to slow down, smile, and exercise understanding of other trail users and their behaviors (even when their etiquette isn't 100%!).
- Understand and follow trail use restrictions - Some trails restrict usage types: Hiking only, no dogs, e-bikes allowed, speed limits, directional trails, muddy trails, etc. Understand where you are, who else is sharing the trail with you, and be ready to exercise "plan B" when you encounter the unexpected.
- Dogs on trails - Park City loves dogs! But no one loves dog poop or harassment. Leashes are required at trailheads, and off-leash areas require diligent awareness of your surroundings. Always pick up dog poop and keep it with you until properly disposed, respect wildlife and agricultural areas, and ensure your pet is under your command at all times. If your dog barks, bites, or intimidates other people or animals, they must be leashed at all times!
- "Leave no Trace" principles - Pick up after yourself and your pets! Park City provides ample free dog bags and trash bins.
- Respect Wildlife - They lived here first!
- Don't be a rude-y! - We are lucky to have access to the trails we enjoy, so enjoy them! If you aren't having fun, don't take it out on those around you.
