The Main Street Area Plan project launched May 2024. Concurrent with the General Plan, the City is conducting a focused Historic Main Street and Old Town Small Area Plan to create a vision for the future with a tangible and feasible project list.

Goals and outcomes for this process

  • Preserve the character of Park City’s Historic Main Street
  • Develop infrastructure for better access
  • Improve resident quality of life
  • Stabilize workforce and business success
  • Enhance economic vibrancy

Background

Because of its prominence, multiple studies and capital investment plans have focused on Main Street and Historic Park City since at least the 1980s. Since then, considerable investments have helped support and maintain the area’s character, look, feel, and functionality (parks, sidewalks, plazas, parking, transit, special events, and more).

With continued growth along the Wasatch Back, particularly at the edge of City boundaries and the resort bases in Park City, Historic Main Street and Old Town will continue to remain economically vibrant and competitive. Given the current moment and pressures, Park City is presented with an exciting opportunity to consider a comprehensive reinvestment and protection strategy to maintain it iconic and historic core.

Timeline

This project kicked off in May 2024. Following community input, City teams hope to provide an updated plan to the City Council by December 2024.
