Look Up & Stay Safe: Residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of snow and ice shedding hazard

Post Date:03/09/2017 6:35 PM

Park City, Utah (March 9, 2017) - The recent weather pattern of significant snowfall followed by warm temperatures has created hazardous roof snow shed conditions in the Park City area. Park City Municipal Corporation would like to remind residents and visitors to take extra precaution when walking near homes or buildings with sloped roofs.

Heavy snow and ice loads are common this time of year and can cause significant injury when snow or ice is shed from rooftops. Cars parked under or near roof slopes are also at risk for damage from snow and ice shedding. Please remain aware of your surroundings and assist children and others from keeping clear of snow and ice shed zones.

Home and building owners are also advised to carefully remove large icicles, which may be hanging from roof overhangs as these can also be a safety hazard. Homeowners with fire hydrants on their property are reminded that per municipal code, it is their responsibility to keep the fire hydrant clear at all times. Please ensure snow has been removed to reveal a three-foot space on all sides of the fire hydrant.

Please call Park City Public Works with any questions or concerns about snow removal at 435-615-5301, or visit the Streets Department website for additional snow removal information.
