UNITY & PRIDE IN COMMUNITY: Andy Beerman's first letter to Parkites as mayor: Friends, It’s true, I am a perennial optimist, but with good reason. Although there are many big challenges facing Park City, we are fortunate to have all the tools and resources we need to solve them. What made our last Council so successful was our faith in our collective ability to make positive change, and we took bold action when opportunities presented themselves. I hope the current Council will show this same courage. Our community wants us to take action, to shape our future, to be proactive about building the town we want. One of our community’s greatest strengths is our diversity, but because of our success as a town, the gap between the haves and the have-nots is growing. We need to rediscover our kindness and our patience, and focus on inclusiveness. It’s time to develop a formalized framework for social equity so that we can better tackle the disparities of our society. I’m really excited about this initiative, especially since there is already a groundswell of community support and there are so many existing programs. We’ll be doing a deep dive on this topic at the City Council Retreat (March 1 & 2), and over the next few months will be developing a strategic plan. I invite you to be part of this very important conversation: go to our online community forum, EngageParkCity, sign up, and give us your thoughts. As I embark on my new adventure, I’m excited about the possibilities, but—more than anything—I’m grateful. I’m grateful for all of you, for the chance to serve as your mayor, and for the privilege of living in Park City. Let's remember that we are surrounded by wonderful people, an amazing natural environment, and an abundance of human and natural capital. We’re lucky enough to live here, so let’s pay it forward by building a stronger, more inclusive community in which everyone feels safe, welcome, and valued. If we work together and focus on what makes us a complete community, our best days are ahead. -- Mayor Andy Beerman (Photo credit: Tanzi Propst/Park Record)
